JSEDirect 99 - Why education should not be compulsory and platinum stocks getting killed

5/16/2013 | Download File - right click to download

This week Simon chats FinWeek cover (Why education should not be compulsory), platinum stocks getting slammed - where they heading? Also, results from Calgro M3, Afrimat and Raubex, World Economic Forum on Africa and three books (The Intelligent Investor, Screw it Let's do it and Fireside chats with FD Roosevelt). Tandisizwe Mahlutshana deputy editor FinWeek on the cover story for 17 May Why education should not be compulsory by Marc Ashton Trader Talk with Moxima Gama The Money Hub Talking platinum stocks, long term bear trends for Amplats and Implats with long term support at R187.60 and 3880c respectively while platinum could break either way with $1,520 and $1,465 the levels to watch. Moxima also offers a stock pick - Assore with R449 the target. Ben Pierre Malherbe CEO Clagro M3 Results to year end February show strong revenue growth and a construction pipeline of over R10billion (the pipeline is around six years work). Banks are lending to their clients and the Fleurhof integrated development is now operating as a proof of concept. Andries van Heerden CEO Afrimat Good revenue and profit growth but some margin shrinkage due to strike action saw profits up sower then revenue. Clinker in the numbers for the full year and doing well adding new product ranges while the Infrasors transaction was only effective post year end. This stock remains one of the preferred in the construction sector as they are typically early cycle. Rudolf Fourie CEO Raubex A better year with the Competition Commission provision for full settlement of R58,8 million causing the drop in earnings. Bitumen remains a challenge but supply wasn't interrupted and a post year end acquisition will largely solve that complication while the new Raubex Infrastructure division offers great potential as it reduces concentration on road construction taking the company into renewable energy, housing, telecommunications, rail and pipeline construction projects. Liesl Peyper FinWeek contributor The World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa was recently held in Cape Town, was it just a talk shop or do real issues get addressed and is the future for Africa bright?
