Mr. Breed discusses Earth's history in the fifth episode of Let's Get Down to Earth... Science. In this podcast, Mr. Breed describes what fossils are and the various processes by which they form and are preserved for us to find. He also discusses the importance of fossils in understanding Earth's past. He then goes on to describe how various geologic principles can be used to determine the relative ages of rock layers and events in geologic cross-sections. Techniques for determining the absolute ages of rock samples are described and the idea of radioisotopes and half-lives are discussed. A brief summary of the geologic time periods in Earth's history wraps up this episode. Keep studying! The regents is just around the corner!
