Stay in view, citizen! It's a new year, and the Secret Frequency is going to live up to its name by making sure none of this "truth" escapes into the wild! After all, democracy is too important to be left to the people...!Our top Green Party stories for 2010 include the election of Ben Chipman in Maine, Tom Clements' run for Senate in South Carolina, and an in-depth look at the Green Party of Texas and their successful ballot access campaign. Steve brings up Richard Winger's important publication Ballot Access News and the Website opensecrets.org, where you can find out more the corporate funding of the duopoly's candidates and their attempts to squelch democratic opposition. Steve and Lise also discuss the Citizens United case and what it means to the duopoly (and what it doesn't mean, as President Obama gets a key provision regarding foreign participation mostly wrong).Meanwhile, Julian Assange gave us a 2010 that just keeps on giving - despite the press's anger that Wikileaks is doing the job which they've abandoned. Right-wing punditry also responds with violent revenge fantasies at Assange uncovering the secrets of the Washington elite, including our illegal wars. Not to be outdone, the U.S. government effectively tortures Bradley Manning and attempts to spy on members of foreign parliaments in an attempt to incriminate Assange. Wired magazine, meanwhile, continues to obfuscate their role as chroniclers and enablers of probable government informant Adrian Lamo (although they now say that there are no "smoking guns" in the chat logs they continue to hold - but who knows if it's true?) But fear not - Anonymous is striking back! And we must admit, we admire their taste in masks!(Producer's Note: A slight correction: Holy Mike Huckabee did not in fact call for Julian Assange's assassination, merely for "whoever leaked" to be bought up on treason charges, saying, "Anything less than execution is too kind of a penalty." The Frequency regrets incorrectly identifying the express, rather than implied, target of this bloodthirsty troll...)Lise also reports on the mailing of incendiary devices in Maryland and D.C., and discusses why signs asking the public to "Report Suspicious Activity" may do more harm than good. Also, we review the Knit Wits Podcast, and there's music by Underground Garage favorite Nick Curran!(Producer's Note: This episode was recorded prior to the Secret Frequency receiving word of the attempted assassination of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson on 8 January. The Frequency would like to join others in expressing our condolences to the families of those slain, our best wishes to the Congresswoman and those injured for a full and swift recovery, and our commitment to nonviolence, a core value of the Green Party.)

There comes a time when you just can't stay inside any more...it's time for the Secret Frequency to check out the world past its mailbox (an endeavor we heartily endorse for everyone!) and see what's happening in the streets. And check it out! The brave people of Egypt are out demanding some democracy! Lise has an extensive report based on Twitter from Tahrir Square in Cairo, including some background on al-Jazeera and the pro-government "demonstrators"...and what this will all mean for people around the world, including for the rest of the Middle East and here in the United States.
Also, Steve follows up on the shooting of Congresswoman Gabirelle Giffords. We'll hear about the Green Party's response, and why Sarah Palin might not be "to blame", as the left-wing blogosphere says...
(Please note that Dottie has some time off from the program for a while. If you miss her, feel free to leave a comment on the Web page!)

Welcome to Vote Wars II: The Duopoly Strikes Back! It's midterm election season again, and if you're a Green, you've seen this movie before, though, as Green candidates, most of whom are more prepared to govern than their money-party challengers, are slammed out of debates and ballots in a mockery of actual democracy. After all, if you weren't in favor of democracy before, why start now? The Secret Frequency has the details!
Also, there's an older song (which fit the theme nicely) by a band formerly featured here on the Frequency: The Alice Project!
Well it's a great day for grass roots politics, when the Tea Party is getting so much attention. Oh, wait, the Koch Brothers? Who are they? Well, at least Glenn Beck is making sure that the little guy has a true appreciation for all the good the US Chamber of Commerce is doing.
And what has the Green Party been doing lately?
Well, LeAlan Jones, the Green Party candidate for Senate in Illinois has been excluded from a League of Women Voters debate for not being a 'viable candidate'. Apparently he won anyway.
The League of Women Voters in Maryland invited all recognized candidates for the Gubernatorial debate. Erlich and O'Malley declined to attend. O'Malley, however, spoke at a church where the Green Party Candidate, Maria Allwine, was most emphatically not welcome.
Laura Wells, the Green Party candidate for Governor of California was arrested for attempting to attend a debate at the Dominican University of California, for which she had a ticket.
Rich Whitney, who is running for Governor of Illinois, had his name strangely misspelled on his ballot. After having this pointed out, the district decided that they could correct it after all.
Diane Fealy and Lewis Novak were accidentally left off the ballot in Wayne County due to a 'clerical error'.
Equality Maine declared the Green Party candidate Lynn Williams as irrelevant.
Kenniss Henry, mother of the late Natasha Pettigrew, is running for Senate in Maryland.
Jesse Johnson is running a specatular campaign for Senate in West Virginia.

Boldly overcoming the inertia of suburban living once again, the Secret Frequency proudly brings you two-fisted tales of political commentary! Well, okay, maybe not, but...what the heck, let's just run that puppy! We start, after a plug for Lise's new solo podcast (yay!), with a cautionary tale on margarita-powered human air-raid sirens at ball games, followed by the latest madness from the U.S. government's obsession with Wikileaks (apparently not just confined to the U.S., as this completely boffo interview by an al-Jazeera reporter with a Swedish prosecutor reveals)!
The venerable WaPo, in the person of Dana Priest, reports on "Top Secret America", and we report on the Post! How is this news to them? I mean, they do live here, right? We report on our own "top secret" adventures, and ask our listeners to respond: was this really out of sight and out of mind to you folks?
Famous rodeo clown Glenn Beck arrived in Washington to march on the Lincoln Memorial. New Left Media has some telling interviews with those who attended. We talk about some things that we can do, personally and politically, to really restore some honor to the country, and we throw it open again to our listeners: what do you think would be the best way to restore honor to America?
The Green Party makes headlines again - oop, wait, forgot, we're in a "democracy", so no one's heard of it! - by advancing a Green New Deal to American voters! 62 candidates, at last count, have signed on to the pledge. We report on the ten points of the platform. You heard 'em here first! (Sadly...you probably did!)
We also have a great song by The Radio Says... - the appropriately titled "No July".
Remember to get back to us in the comments!
